Recommended Books
I hope it goes without saying that no amount of reading books or watching videos can replace proper practice in the dojo. However, for those who have some extra time and wish to do their own homework, some of the recourses below should enhance your understanding of karate & budo. For the more mature or advanced student, there are some aspects of karate, such as it's history and philosophy, that may require them to conduct their own research.
There are a myriad of books on the market today on karate & the martial arts. Below are some of those that "I" consider to be better titles about the subject. Dealing with Basics, Kumite, Kata, self-defence and also history & philosophy. I have also some self improvement books on Positive Mental Attitude (PMA), Conflict Management & Personal Security.
Be sure to check out the reviews before you buy. I have bought hundreds of books and spent years researching the subjects below - in my opinion, these are the cream of their respective fields. If they're not on here, you can be sure I've read them and left them off the lists on purpose!!
Lastly, I KNOW that there are a lot of books in the lists below. They are only intended as an guide as to the best ones covering "our" subject of interest & study, I've already made the mistake of buying all the "worst" books, I hope here to offer you a choice of "good" titles so that you don't waste any of your money and time searching.
