The Go Jo

The Go-Jo (The Five Virtues)

Bushi-do, the way of the samurai, grew out of the amalgamation of Buddhism and Shintoism. These seven rules of conduct underlying the spirit of Bushi-do, Bu-martial, Shi-warrior, Do-the way. These were the essential studies of the Bukyo and Shido, as shown in the seven virtues of the warrior.

The Masters called five of these virtues the Go-Jo;-

1 Chi Wisdom and Prudence.
2 Gi Justice, rightness, honour, fidelity, duty, devotion and just attitude.
3 Jin Beatitude, dignity and quality
4 Rei Etiquette, ceremony and just behaviour.
5 Shin Superior consciousness.
