Information on Grading to Nidan

Below is a sample of typical Kihon used in Black Belt gradings;-

         Sanbon Zuki x 5 forwards & backwards (Zenkutsu Dachi)

         Kizami (still) forward Oi Zuki, Gyaku Zuki x 5 forwards & backwards (Zenkutsu Dachi)

         Forward Mai Geri + Mawashi geri (same leg) land uraken, Gyaku Zuki x 5 (Zenkutsu Dachi)

         Forward Mai Geri + Kekomi (same leg) land uraken, Gyaku Zuki x 5 (Zenkutsu Dachi)

         Forward Kizami half step forward same side Gyaku Zuki x 5 (Zenkutsu Dachi)

         Forward Age Uke + Soto Uke (same arm) Gyaku Zuki x 5 forwards & backwards (Zenkutsu Dachi)

         Forward Keage land Shuto uke in kiba Dachi + Nukite in Zenkutsu Dachi

         Forward Mawashi geri, Ushero Mawashi Geri land Gyaku Zuki x 5 forwards & backwards (Zenkutsu Dachi)

         Forward Mai Geri land Oi Zuki, Gyaku Zuki, backwards Age Uke, Gyaku Zuki, forward Kekomi, Gyaku Zuki x 3 forwards & turn backwards (Zenkutsu Dachi)

         Forward sanbon Zuki, backwards Soto uke & Kizami, Gyaku Zuki, turn Ushero geri, land uraken, forward Oi Zuki x 5

         Mai geri front leg, forward Oi Zuki x 5 then same backwards

         Forward Mai geri Jodan, step back & Gyaku Zuki Chudan, turn Ushero geri, land, step forward Oi Zuki x 5

Kata for Nidan

As well as the Eight kata that are required for you to reach 1st Dan i.e:

Kihon Kata, Heian's 1-5, Tekki Shodan & Bassai-Dai; you were required to learn the following kata for your Shodan or 1st Dan Black Belt exam

Kanku-Dai, Tekki Nidan, Empi, Jiin, Jitte, Jion, Hangetsu & Chinte.

Candidates may select one of the following as their favorite kata;-

Nijushiho, Bassai Sho, Sochin & Kanku-sho.

IPPON KUMITE (Jodan, Chudan, Mae Geri, Kekomi)

JIYU IPPON KUMITE (Jodan, Chudan, Mae Geri, Kekomi, Mawashi-Geri, Ushiro-Geri)
