The following syllabus is given only as an example of what may be expected in the SSKA.....

GRADING FROM: 2nd DAN TO 3rd  DAN (BLACK)

(Taken after a minimum of three years has elapsed after achieving Ni Dan)

Kumite

Any 1st or 2nd Dan combination plus:

Kizame zuki, gyaku zuki, mawashi geri, uraken, gyaku zuki, step back geidan barrai, gyaku zuki,

rear leg mae geri and step back, ushiro geri, uraken, gyaku zuki.

Kata

Students choice of Sochin, Unsu, Gankaku Chinte or Gojushiho-sho then Examiners choice of;-

Bassai Sho, Kanku-sho, Nijushiho, Tekki Nidan or Jitte

Kumite

Kaishi Ippon Kumite- pre arranged attacks as for 1st

Explanation of chosen kata and associated Bunkai

GRADING FROM: 3rd DAN TO 4th DAN (BLACK)

(Taken after a minimum of four years has elapsed after achieving San Dan)

Kihon

Any 1st or 2nd Dan combination plus:

Kizame zuki, oi zuki, gyaku zuki, ren zuki, step back age uke, soto uke, geidan barrai and uchi uke with same arm, kizame zuki, gyaku zuki, four turning gyaku zuki attacks, turn behind with haito uchi, mawashi geri, uraken, gyaku zuki, back leg mae geri and step back, yoko geri keage to side and return to stance, and finally step forward with mawashi geri, ushiro geri, uraken and gyaku zuki.

Kata

Students choice of Meikyo (Rohai), Jiin, Wankan Tekki Sandan or Gojushiho-dai with a practical demonstration of requested applications then Examiners choice of;-

Sochin, Unsu, Gankaku, Chinte or Gojushiho-sho

Kumite

Kaishi Ippon Kumite - any 5 attacks, not pre-arranged.

Demonstration of between 3 and 5 favourite Kumite combinations.

Ju Kumite

GRADING FROM: 4th DAN TO 5th DAN (BLACK)

(Taken after a minimum of five years has elapsed after achieving Yon Dan)

Kihon

As previous grading plus a 1500 - 2000 word thesis on any aspect of Karate Do

Kata

Students choice of Any Kata from Shodan syllabus and above then Examiners choice of

Any two Kata from Shodan syllabus and above.

Demonstration of applications will be requested of any techniques from performed Kata

Kumite

Demonstration of between 3 and 5 favourite Kumite techniques
