Orange Belt - 9th Kyu

Congratulations to you on your achievement so far. You've been a few months now & are becoming used to the regime of karate lessons.

The first couple of months are undoubtedly the hardest because everything is so new & probably alien to you.

Your next Kata is Heian Shodan & you'll be pleased to know that this is very similar to Kata Kihon. The kumite required for your next exam is the same as at white belt; so there are only a few more new bits of kihon (basic moves) that you need to learn.

If you have the opportunity, it would be good to look up the line & have a look at what others are required to learn, particularly the Red Belts. If you can learn a few of their kata - Heian Nidan, all the better, as this is in comparison quite a difficult kata.

It's my opinion that anyone who reaches Red Belt OK (8th Kyu) should easily get to Black Belt, as the transition from Orange to Red is harder that Brown to Black.

If you have any questions please be sure to ask your instructor - there's no such thing as a silly question!

Keep up the good work & most of all - have fun, your learning an art & a skill that will last a lifetime.
